Gauze Bandage

Posted on January 3, 2026 by Chester Canonigo Leave a Comment on Gauze Bandage

Simple, cheap, and saves lives.

A gauze bandage is a loosely woven cotton roll that you use to wrap wounds, secure dressings, and control bleeding. It is… honestly one of the most versatile things in any first aid kit. You can use it for almost anything.

Gauze roll bandages are essential for securing gauze pads over wounds, wrapping sprained joints, and even packing deeper wounds when bleeding won’t stop with regular pressure. Roller gauze can also be used directly in wounds with uncontrolled bleeding to help slow hemorrhage.

The Philippine Red Cross includes PBT bandage (a type of elastic gauze roll, 5cm x 4.5m) in their standard survival kit. Widely available here at Mercury Drug, Rose Pharmacy, Generika, and on Shopee for very affordable prices.

What it’s used for:

  • Wrap and secure dressings and gauze pads over wounds
  • Control and slow down moderate to heavy bleeding
  • Wrap sprained ankles, wrists, or other joints for support
  • Pack deeper wounds when direct pressure alone isn’t enough
  • Create padding or support around fractures alongside a splint

Why it belongs in your emergency kit:

  • Works alongside gauze pads, tourniquets, and other wound care supplies
  • Roller gauze is flexible enough to wrap around any body part including fingers
  • Cheap and lightweight, takes up almost no space in your kit
  • Can be used in combination with a pressure dressing for serious hemorrhage
  • Useful for typhoon injuries, construction accidents, and road incidents
