Protect your head at all times.
A hard hat (also called a safety helmet) is a rigid protective headgear designed to protect your skull from falling objects, bumps, and debris. It sounds simple. But the injuries it prevents… are not simple at all. Head injuries from falling objects can be instantly fatal.
Under Philippine law… Republic Act 11058 (the OSH Law) and DOLE’s Department Order No. 13 require hard hats at all construction sites. The ANSI Z89.1 standard (which DOLE references in OSHS Rule 1080) sets the design and construction requirements. Employers are legally required to provide hard hats free of charge to workers who need them.
Here in Davao… with all the construction happening along JP Laurel, Diversion Road, Quimpo Boulevard, and the new developments in Buhangin and Catalunan… hard hats are everywhere on job sites.
But they also belong in your home emergency kit. During earthquakes and typhoons, falling debris is a major cause of injury. Having a construction hard hat or even a bicycle helmet in your Go Bag area is actually smart preparation according to NDRRMC guidelines.
What it’s used for:

- Used by rescue teams when entering damaged structures after disasters
