The gentle, skin-friendly tape that holds everything in place.
Micropore tape is a lightweight, breathable, non-woven paper tape with a gentle adhesive used to secure dressings, gauze, and wound coverings.
It is one of the most commonly used medical tapes precisely because it is gentle on skin, breathable (allows air through), and leaves minimal adhesive residue when removed.
Micropore in particular (made by 3M and widely available under that brand name in the Philippines) is preferred for securing gauze and dressings because it works on all skin types including sensitive skin, it allows wounds to breathe, and it does not tear skin when removed.
Available at Mercury Drug, Rose Pharmacy, Generika, and online on Shopee and Lazada in the Philippines. Very affordable. One roll lasts a long time.
What it’s used for:
- Secure gauze pads, sterile dressings, and wound coverings to skin
- Hold splints or padding in place alongside a bandage
- Secure IV lines or medical tubes in a clinical setting
- Secure a cold or warm pack against the body
- Label or mark dressings with application time
Why it belongs in your emergency kit:
- Keeps wound dressings secure so they don’t fall off during activity or evacuation
- Breathable tape allows wounds to heal properly without moisture trapping
- Works on all skin types including sensitive, elderly, or children’s skin
- One of the lightest and most compact tapes for any kit
- Widely available and inexpensive across all Philippine pharmacies
Pros and Cons:
| PROS | CONS |
| Very gentle on skin… no tearing on removal | Less strong than cloth or zinc oxide tape… dressings may loosen in heavy sweat or rain |
| Breathable and hypoallergenic for all skin types | Not waterproof… loses adhesion when wet (important consideration in floods) |
| Widely available and inexpensive in the Philippines | Not suitable for heavy-duty securing of large dressings |
| Long shelf life when stored dry | Needs to be stored in a sealed kit to prevent the adhesive from drying out |
| Works on face, neck, and sensitive areas where other tapes can’t be used | Easy to accidentally unroll in the kit if not stored carefully |
