Nitrile Gloves

Posted on January 18, 2026 by Chester Canonigo Leave a Comment on Nitrile Gloves

Your first line of protection before you touch any wound.

Nitrile gloves are disposable, powder-free, synthetic rubber gloves that protect both the person giving first aid and the person receiving it. They are latex-free, making them safe for people with latex allergies, which is more common than most people realize.

Nitrile or vinyl protective gloves are mandatory in any workplace first aid kit.

Why nitrile specifically?

Nitrile is more puncture resistant than latex, more chemical resistant, and provides better tactile sensitivity (you can still feel what you’re doing).

For first aid purposes… always put on gloves before touching any wound. It protects the injured person from your germs and protects you from their blood and bodily fluids.

What it’s used for:

  • Protect yourself from blood-borne pathogens when providing first aid
  • Protect the injured person from contamination by your hands
  • Worn when handling any wound, dressing, or bodily fluid
  • Required PPE in healthcare, food service, and laboratory environments
  • Use when cleaning wounds, applying dressings, or giving CPR with a face shield

Why it belongs in your emergency kit:

  • The first thing you should put on in any emergency… before touching anything
  • Protects both the helper and the patient from cross-contamination
  • Legally required in workplace first aid kits under OSHA and Philippine DOLE standards
  • Latex-free means safe for almost everyone including allergy-prone individuals
  • Keep at least 2 pairs in your kit (one pair for initial care, one clean pair for dressing changes)
PROSCONS
